Neighborhood Friend of the Week: Jacob

Neighborhood Friend of the Week: Jacob

Friend of the Week is a regular feature to introduce furry friends in the community who need loving and caring homes.  Please help these deserving animals find their forever guardians or consider adopting an animal yourself.  NFW Cle: Available for Adoption

NFW Challenge 2013:   423 / 460 Adoptions

It has taken all the way until June to see, but Jacob is a Christmas miracle.  This special Friend was rescued by PAWS right before Christmas 2012.  By the way he looked, Jacob had a very rough neglected life thus far.  He was filthy, and his fur was matted so much that it looked like he did not have any eyes.  Once the fur was cut away, his eyes needed treatment for infections.  In early January, after dental work, neuter, and full veterinary care/vaccinations, Jacob could begin his road to full recovery.

Today, Jacob is a new dog.  He is a very happy, lovable sweetheart who deserves lots of love and companionship.  Jacob will surely return the gesture with plenty of love, snuggles, and kisses of his own!  Jacob is wonderful with other dog and cats too.  So, come check him out!  Jacob has put on his best collar shirt, fitted to impress.  He deserves to feel the love and comfort of a forever home for the rest of his days.  You can end this story with a happily ever after, while adding a new best Friend to your heart and home.

To adopt Jacob today, contact the Public Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) of Ohio at 440-442-PAWS, email adoption@pawsohio.org, or visit www.pawsohio.org.

Reduce your chances at being a victim of crime this summer.

Reduce your chances at being a victim of crime this summer.

As you plan your outdoor activities and family vacations, keep being safe at the forefront of your mind.

Here are several tips from the SHPD for a safe and fun summer.

  • When planning a trip, use light timers and notify your local police department of your vacation dates. Ask a neighbor to grab your mail and newspapers.
  • Use motion detectors and/or dusk-to-dawn lighting to keep the outside illuminated.
  • Inspect all door and window locks, double-hung, casement and sliding windows.
  • Lock all first floor doors and windows before bed.
  • Trim shrubbery that obsures doors and windows.  This makes it more difficult for an intruder to gain entry.
  • Make sure your address is clearly visible from the street for emergency purposes.
  • Close and lock the garage door when you are not nearby.
  • License your bicycle through the police department and lock up when unattended.
  • Lock your car even while in the garage; keep electronics and valuables out of view.
  • Be aware of your surroundings when you bike, walk, or jog.  Stay on well-lit paths, tell someone where you are going, and if possible, carry a cell phone.
  • Notify the police department when there is a street light out.
  • Install an alarm system, if possible.
